Saltwater Classroom Workshops
I can't say enough about how great our experience was with Saltwater Classroom. They brought ocean science and pollution problems to life for our students with a thorough, well-organized program of hands-on experiments and activities on the beach, in the tidal pools, and back in the classroom as well. The kids loved it, they were engaged and having fun, and they learned a ton. The instructors were knowledgeable, patient, enthusiastic, and great with even the toughest kids, and they were a pleasure to work with for our staff. This is exactly the kind of field-based, hands-on, hard science that we believe creates authentic learning, and they delivered. Saltwater Classroom is the best!

Saltwater Classroom introduces young students to the marine environment through hands-on, experience-based workshops around the world. These workshops are driven by a comprehensive curriculum centered on ocean science and conservation. Through engaging lessons, hands-on experiments, meaningful field missions, and creative projects, Saltwater Classroom workshops allow participants to connect with the marine environment and build a foundation for a lifelong commitment to ocean stewardship.
Saltwater Classroom workshops are week-long programs hosted by our Saltwater Classroom Team at your local school or organization. Our workshops are hands-on and experience-based and take place both in the classroom and in the local marine environment. Saltwater Classroom workshops are designed for students ages 9-13, or grades 4-6.
The Saltwater Classroom curriculum is designed in part to apply to the Ocean Literacy Framework. Developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and other marine scientists, the Ocean Literacy Framework is designed to instill an understanding of the oceans as well as an individual’s impact on it. The Ocean Literacy Framework and corresponding set of principles are correlated to the National Science Education Standards (NSES) Science Content Standards.
Through Saltwater Classroom's curriculum, students will gain an understanding of the ocean as a global system, a specific grasp on coastal ecosystems, including their local ecosystem, an introduction to many different species of fish, marine mammals, and seabirds, as well as an understanding of the many issues facing oceans today and how their individual actions can help the oceans.
One of the major strengths of the Saltwater Classroom curriculum is its adaptability. Not only will a Saltwater Classroom workshop be tailored to suit the specific needs of your school, organization, or entity, but the lessons themselves will also be catered to your local environment. Our program is flexible and we would be more than happy to work with you to ensure the best possible program.
