Avoid Plastic

Our society has a real plastic problem. And our plastic problem, has become a BIG problem for the planet. YOU can make a difference by avoiding plastic in your daily life and encouraging others to do the same. Opt instead for plastic-free alternatives and push for new plastic-free solutions when one doesn't exist.

Here are some ways that YOU can

say NO to plastic:

  1. Avoid buying items packaged in plastic.

  2. Stop using plastic straws -- choose metal, bamboo, glass, or silicone

  3. Drink beverages from reusable cups, bottles, or mugs.

  4. Use a canvas tote bag.

  5. Use cloth diapers instead of disposables.

  6. Ditch the disposable razor -- our favorite alternative is Leaf Shave

  7. Give up gum. It's made of synthetic rubber, which is a plastic.

  8. Use a bamboo toothbrush.

  9. Quit smoking cigarettes.

  10. Skip the lid.

  11. Wear clothing made from natural (not synthetic) materials.

  12. Bring your own travel eating utensils. 

  13. Bring your own container for takeout or leftovers.

  14. Use reusable silicon bags instead of plastic baggies -- we love Stasher!

  15. Use silk dental floss! Check out Maine-made Dental Lace instead.

  16. Ditch the toothpaste tube — use tablets!

  17. Say no to styrofoam.

  18. Use a compostable sponge and natural dish scrubbers.

  19. Buy food in bulk.

  20. Use matches instead of disposable plastic lighters or invest in a refillable metal lighter.

  21. Visit a local refill shop! 

  22. Pack your lunch in reusable containers and bags.

  23. Use bar soap.

  24. Choose paper cartons over plastic.

  25. Choose toilet paper wrapped in paper, not plastic.

  26. Give your pets sustainable toys, not plastic ones!

  27. Order your ice-cream in a cone -- yum!

  28. Skip plastic produce bags, bring your own or go without.

  29. Shop your local farmers market. 

  30. Try a shampoo and conditioner bar.

  31. Use solid deodorant in a glass jar.

  32. Use lip products in compostable packages.

  33. Have a plastic-free period.

  34. Choose plastic-free sun protection products -- MANDA is our go-to!

  35. Plastic-free hair ties and scrunchies.

  36. Use natural and biodegradable gift wrapping.

  37. Use wooden cooking utensils. 

  38. Make loose leaf tea.

  39. Make your coffee routine plastic-free.

  40. Choose jars. 

  41. Use no-litter glitter! 

  42. Choose wines with natural corks or metal screw caps.

  43. Skip plastic beach toys. 

  44. Avoid receipts — they’re plastic paper.
